Necropoli di Puntone

Saturnia’s necropolises were used for a long period of time, from the second quarter of the 7th century to the middle of the 5th century BC.
The only necropolis open to visitors is that of Puntone, situated in a picturesque landscape dominated by oaks and sycamore trees.

The small-scale mound tombs are characterised by an open access corridor (dromos) leading to the rectangular funerary room.

The latter is sometimes divided by a travertine column, which divides the room into two spaces. Travertine is also used on the walls and the coverings of tomb.

Any treasures found in these tombs are on display in Saturnia’s museum and the site is open 24/7 and is free to visit.

The necropolis can be found at Località Puntone, outside of Saturnia. Check with the tourist office in Manciano if you’re unsure.
