Cala del Gesso is one of the most beautiful beaches in Argentario. It’s not the easiest beach to get to with a steep and long walk from the car park, but it’s worth it.
The beach is made up of very small and polished pebbles. Directly in front is a small island, while at the far end, the remains of a 16th-century Spanish tower. The beach is all free and there are no bathing establishments. It’s a great place for snorkelling too.
In the high season, arrive before 10am to beat the crowds.
To reach Cala del Gesso, take the panoramic road from Porto Santo Stefano. After 5.9 km, you’ll see a turn off for Via dei Pionieri. At the end of it is a small pathway that leads down to a short but steep staircase. Wear comfortable shoes and avoid the uphill climb in the hottest hours.
