Built by the Alberti di Mangona family in the Middle Ages, this castle in the Monterotondo Marittimo countryside was completely destroyed by troops of the Medici family in 1554.
Today, after much tender loving care from the locals and the town council, the castle has been restored to its former beauty as a reminder of the Mangona family’s ancient, but still impressive, power.
While visitors can’t explore the castle itself, they can get up close and personal and take in the incredible stone walls and proud battlements. The view of the countryside from here is also amazing.
Coming into Monterotondo Marittimo you can’t miss the castle, but if you need some directions, pop into the tourist info centre on Via del Poggiarello and they’ll be more than happy to show you where to go!
