Continuing an artistic heritage in Capalbio that began centuries ago, Capalbio Art is held during the summer months in Piazza dei Pini.
It is primarily a film festival, except there are no judges or winners. Instead, various films are show in various locations across the city.
Most of them are free and recent Oscar winners or nominees. Depending on the year’s theme, there’s usually a selection of brilliant foreign films and works by local directors.
There’s even a children’s nights and no Capalbio Art festival is complete without the screening of an old Italian or foreign classic.
But as its slogan says, this festival is not just about cinema. It also hosts a stack of other cultural events including debates on cinema, art and music; photography exhibitions; painting and sculpting seminars; video installations, and usually a rocking concert or two.
The event has reached such heights that Capalbio is now regarded as one of Tuscany’s foremost modern artistic and cultural centres.
