You usually have the choice of at least ten different beers and the atmosphere is never raucous.

Instead, Italian pubs are packed with youngsters who don’t go clubbing or are about to go clubbing. They are the afternoon and early evening meeting place for some very fancy cocktails and are often very civilised affairs.

The same goes for wine bars, or enoteche. Only the crowd at those is a bit older and has a taste for luxury.
