pitigliano-alberto-manziAlso known as the "City of Life, City of Dead" Outdoor Archaeological Museum, this museum is located outside of Pitigliano.

Only recently opened, it recreates the entire history of the Etruscan-Roman civilisations, reconstructing all aspects of urban life from the protohistoric villages of the Bronze Age with their circular huts to an Etruscan town house with three rooms and a porch.

This part of the museum is known as the City of the Living.

In the City of the Dead section is an Etruscan necropolis with one, two and three bedrooms rooms. These are not reconstructions, but the real things, built in the second half of the 7th century BC.

The museum's guides often hold staged reenactments of Etruscan burial rituals so you can get an idea of what they were like.

Further down in the park is the necropolis of San Giovanni with tombs from the 6th to the 4th-early 3rd century BC.

The museum also has an indoor section that displays historical artifacts, models and reconstructions.
