At the beginning of Via Aurelia, the street that leads you to the city centre, this door is a beautiful arch of worn stone with faded inscriptions.
The arch was built in the Middle Ages, along with the city walls, and has remained pretty much untouched since then.
To be really honest, I love this archway because it is my favourite entry point into Grosseto. It is tall and majestic, grand and imposing, just like the city itself.
The original archway was called Porta Reale and probably had a guard tower. The beautiful traventine rock is a bit faded, but I think that just adds to its beauty and charm.
